What famous writer did Edgar Allan Poe meet?

Edgar Allan Poe met several famous writers during his lifetime, but one of the most notable was Nathaniel Hawthorne. They met in 1844 and even lived in the same neighborhood in New York City for a period.

Although their relationship was not particularly close, they admired each other's work and occasionally exchanged letters. Poe was a fan of Hawthorne's novel "The Scarlet Letter," while Hawthorne praised Poe's poetry.

It's worth noting that Poe also knew Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Cullen Bryant, and James Russell Lowell, among others.
