When was typewriter used?

1870s-1990s

The first practical typewriter was invented in 1870 by Christopher Latham Sholes. It was called the Sholes and Glidden typewriter and was manufactured by E. Remington and Sons. The first commercial success came in 1873 with the Remington No. 1 typewriter.

Initially, typewriters were very expensive and were used primarily by businesses. However, by the early 20th century, they had become more affordable and began to be used by a wider range of people, including students, journalists, and authors.

In the 1960s, the typewriter began to be replaced by the computer. By the 1990s, word processors had largely replaced typewriters for most purposes.
