* Caedmon: A shepherd who, according to Bede's *Ecclesiastical History of the English People*, was given the gift of poetry by God after a vision. His most famous work is *Hymn to Creation*.
* Cynewulf: A poet known only from four poems he signed with runic riddles. His most famous works include *The Dream of the Rood* and *Crist*.
While we have a few more names of Anglo-Saxon poets, like Aldhelm, it's important to note that many more were likely lost to history. The majority of Anglo-Saxon poetry has come down to us anonymously.
