While the Canterbury Tales were started around 1387, they were not completed by Geoffrey Chaucer. He died in 1400, leaving the work unfinished.
Although Chaucer is widely considered the author of The Canterbury Tales, it's important to remember that he only completed a portion of the story before his death.
