The story introduces us to Beowulf, a young and strong warrior from Geatland. Beowulf has heard of Grendel's reign of terror, and he sets out for Anglond to challenge the dragon. Beowulf arrives in Anglond and meets with Hrothgar, the king of Anglond. Hrothgar welcomes Beowulf and tells him of the great danger that Grendel poses to his kingdom. Beowulf agrees to fight Grendel, and the king's men prepare for the battle.
As Beowulf faces Grendel in the dragon's lair, the two engage in a fierce fight. Their battle lasts for hours, and Beowulf eventually defeats Grendel. The people of Anglond are overjoyed and thankful to Beowulf for saving them from the dragon. Beowulf returns to Geatland a hero, where he is celebrated for his victory.
