Herot was built by the Danes under King Hrothgar, who ruled the land of the Danes. Hrothgar was a wise and just king, and Herot was a great and magnificent hall where he held his court and entertained his guests. Beowulf, the hero of the poem, came to Herot from Geatland to help King Hrothgar defeat the monster Grendel, who had been terrorizing the Danes for many years.
