What is an important theme in Arab poetry throughout the centuries?
Themes of unity and Islamic history. The Quran emphasizes the unity of God and the equality of all believers, themes commonly found in Arab poetry. Many poems, especially in the early centuries of Islam, also praised the Prophet Muhammad and his companions, and celebrated the victories and conquests of the Arab Muslims. More recent poets have used their work to express solidarity with the Palestinian people, and to protest the Western powers that have intervened in the Middle East.
