Did Joseph Pulitzer start his journal in St. Louis?

Joseph Pulitzer did start his journalism career in St. Louis. He purchased the St. Louis Dispatch in 1878 and later merged it with the St. Louis Post to create the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
