How is a calendar used in the papermaking process?

Calendaring is not usually performed on paper machines because of problems achieving high nip pressures without crushing. However, a special application exists, namely the production of capacitor tissue (dielectric film for high-voltage capacitors with extremely low dissipation factor) where only small quantities of thin material are run, usually off- machine.
