The Lost Key

Characters:

* Amelia: A frantic woman, early 40s

* Ben: A calm, patient man, also early 40s

Setting:

The living room of a cozy, suburban home. Amelia paces back and forth, her face a mask of worry. Ben sits calmly on the sofa, watching her.

Amelia: (Pacing) Where is it? Where is it? I've looked everywhere!

Ben: (Calmly) Amelia, you've been searching for an hour. Breathe. Sit down.

Amelia: (Stops pacing, throws her hands up) I can't breathe! I'm going to miss my flight!

Ben: (Raises an eyebrow) Amelia, your flight is in 10 hours. It's 9:00 AM.

Amelia: (Ignoring him) It's the key! I need the key to the house!

Ben: The house key?

Amelia: Yes! I left it on the counter this morning, and now it's gone! I've checked every nook and cranny!

Ben: (Getting up) Let me see.

(Ben calmly searches the kitchen counter, then the living room, and finally the entryway.)

Amelia: (Watching him nervously) You'll never find it.

Ben: (Smiling) We'll find it.

(Ben finds the key under a pile of mail in the entryway.)

Amelia: (Gasps) Oh my goodness! You found it! You're a genius!

Ben: (Laughing) It was right under your nose.

Amelia: (Embarrassed) Well, I was a little flustered. You're right, it's still early.

Ben: (Sitting down) See? There's no need to panic.

Amelia: (Taking a deep breath) You're right. I should just relax and enjoy the day.

Ben: (Smiling) Exactly. Now, how about some coffee?

Amelia: (Smiling) That sounds perfect. Thanks, Ben. You're a lifesaver.

(Amelia and Ben share a laugh, their anxieties dissipating in the warmth of their shared space.)
