At the end of Island book one by Gordon Korman, the main character, Will, manages to escape from the abandoned island with his newfound friends. They are rescued by a passing cargo ship and taken back to civilization. Will is relieved to be safe and reunite with his family and friends. However, he cannot help but feel a sense of sadness as he leaves the island behind. He has grown attached to his fellow castaways and the lessons he learned during his time on the island. His adventure has forever changed him, and he knows that he will never forget his experiences on the island or the friends he made there.
