Does may December romances origin from Jane Eyre?
While the "May-December" term to refer to an age-gap in relationships has historical precedence and can be traced back to at least the late 18th century, and potentially earlier, it cannot be attributed purely to "Jane Eyre" or Charlotte Brontë. The novel does feature a significant age gap between Jane and Mr. Rochester; but the origin of the phrase is multifaceted and has various influences and references in folklore, mythology, and history.
