What does montag do with the books he has rescued?

Montag, in Ray Bradbury's *Fahrenheit 451*, hides the books he rescues in several ways:

* In his house: He initially hides books in a secret compartment built into the wall of his bedroom. He also keeps some books in his book-burning "fireman" suit, which he modifies to have pockets.

* In the woods: He later buries a large collection of books in a hidden location in the woods, near the house of an old woman who he previously burned to death.

* With other book-loving "hobos": Montag eventually connects with a group of book-loving individuals who are living in the woods, and he shares some of the books with them. They keep the books safe and are teaching themselves to read.

Montag's actions show the importance of preserving knowledge and literature, even in a society that actively tries to destroy it.
