What is Robert carrier?

Robert Carr(c. 1595–15 February 1649), 1st Earl of Somerset was a favourite – in both senses of the word – of King James VI and I. A Scotsman, he rose to prominence in the English court when James succeeded Queen Elizabeth I in March 1603. He became involved in the murder of Sir Thomas Overbury, was charged and convicted, and, although spared from the death penalty, spent seven years in the Tower of London.
