What is a summary of what men live by?

"What Men Live By" tells the story of a peasant living in Tsarist Russia. An angel disguises himself as a beggar to reveal the nature of man to a shoemaker. The angel, who is actually God, asks for lodging for the night and shares a lesson with the shoemaker. He leaves when the shoemaker doubts him. The lesson is that human beings live by their compassion, faith, forgiveness and love.
