The climax of The Diary of Anne Frank is the family's arrest by the Nazis.

On August 1, 1944, the Secret Annex is raided by the Gestapo. Anne, her sister Margot, their parents Otto and Edith, and the other people hiding in the annex are all arrested. The teenagers Anne and Margot are taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, where they die of typhus in early 1945. The Secret Annex is discovered by the Nazis, and Anne's diary is left behind. It is later found by Miep Gies, one of the people who helped to hide the Frank family, and it is published after the war.
