Underline the key words in the prompt. Make sure you understand which type of response you should use, descriptive, expository, narrative or letter format.
Pre-write for each prompt. Prewriting is crucial because it allows you the opportunity to brainstorm and organize your thoughts. This saves time when writing the actual essay and helps to ensure you answer the prompt completely.
Do your best on both prompts. They are worth 18 points each. This helps to ensure that you pass, even if you do not score well on the multiple choice or short answer.
Edit your final responses. Make corrections by drawing a single line through the text you want to omit. Check for spelling and punctuation. Be sure that your response makes sense and that your conclusion wraps up the ideas in the essay.
Use the process of elimination with the multiple choice questions. Mark out the answers you know are incorrect.
