You can choose to go to a designated test center to take a pencil and paper test. You must contact your local test center for dates and times of the paper-delivered tests. You will find a listing of testing centers on the ETS "Praxis Test Centers and Dates" page in Resources.
You can also take the Praxis II via a computer. You must do this at a designated testing center. Ask your local test center when it offers these computer-delivered tests.
Praxis II has a few different areas you will be tested on. You can take the Elementary Education Content Knowledge test or the Elementary Education Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment test. You are given two hours for each test. The Content Knowledge test covers a variety of kindergarten through 12th grade subjects to ensure you understand the information you will be teaching. The Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment test covers a variety of teaching practices and skills that you should know as an entry-level educator.
There are also 2.5 hour long French, German and Spanish Praxis II exams. Look on the ETS Praxis "State Requirements" page to figure out which exams you should be taking for your state. Remember that you can take individual tests at a different time and you are not required to do them all at one time.
There are also subject-based Praxis II exams that you can take. There are more than 120 different exams for this. These exams are required if you are entering a specific type of education. This exam list includes Biology, Chemistry, Art, Communications, Early Childhood Educations, Music, Life Sciences, Physical Educations, Psychology, Social Studies, Special Education and History. The ETS Praxis "State Requirements" page will help you determine which tests you should take for your field.
