If early kindergarten testing is performed by a friendly, experienced and engaging instructor, most parents find that it is, at the very least, a positive experience for the child. The testing serves as an opportunity to introduce your child to the teacher-student relationship prior to your child actually beginning school.
If your child scores well on an early kindergarten entry test, he is deemed capable of entering kindergarten early. Many parents see this as an opportunity for their child to get an educational jump start, but this is not always the case.
Children do not grow, develop or learn the same way. Because early kindergarten testing is performed at such an uncertain time, it is quite possible that the test will reveal issues that do not truly exist, due simply to the child's age and developmental stage. In fact, it is possible that a child can be falsely diagnosed with a learning disability.
The scores resulting from early kindergarten tests have not been proven to be able to predict future success or shortcomings. High scores do not necessarily mean that a younger child will do well when placed with children at a higher stage in development. The same is true with children that have been held back due to low test scores.
