Consequences for not joining the selective service act?

Failure to register with the Selective Service System is a federal offense punishable by:

* Up to 5 years in prison

* Up to $250,000 in fines

In addition, individuals who fail to register may be:

* Denied federal student loans, grants, and job training

* Denied entry into the United States if they are not a citizen

* Deported if they are not a citizen

It is important to note that these penalties only apply to individuals who are required to register with the Selective Service System. This includes all male U.S. citizens and male immigrants who are between the ages of 18 and 25.
