How many vowels are in a syllable?

A syllable can have zero, one, two, or more vowels. There's no fixed limit. The key is that a syllable *must* have a vowel *sound*, even if it's represented by a single letter or a combination of letters (a diphthong or triphthong). A vowel sound is the defining characteristic of a syllable.
