- William, Duke of Normandy, invades England and defeats King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. William is crowned King of England.
1069: Harrying of the North
- William launches a devastating campaign against the rebellious north of England, destroying crops and livestock and burning villages.
1070: Great Revolt
- Several English earls rebel against William's rule, but their rebellion is crushed. William confiscates the lands of the rebels and grants them to his Norman knights.
1075: Survey of England
- William orders a survey of England to be conducted to determine the extent of his new kingdom and its resources. This survey is known as the Domesday Book.
1086: Domesday Book Completed
- The Domesday Book is completed and presented to William at Winchester. The book provides a detailed account of the lands and wealth of England.
