What are similes and walk two moons?

Similes are figures of speech that compare two unlike things using the words "like" or "as." For example, "The moon is like a silver dollar in the sky."

In Walk Two Moons, there are many similes. Here are a few examples:

* "My grandmother's house was like a big old tree, with lots of branches and nooks and crannies."

* "Salamanca, Idaho, is like a grain of sand in the desert."

* "My mother was like a bird, always flying away."

Similes help to create a vivid image in the reader's mind and to make the writing more interesting.
