What is the appearance of nightingales?

Nightingales are medium-sized passerine birds with a length of 15 to 17 centimeters (5.9 to 6.7 inches) and a wingspan of 24 to 29 centimeters (9.4 to 11.4 inches). They have slender bodies with long tails, and their plumage is mainly brown, gray, and rufous. Their upper parts are chestnut or reddish-brown, while their underparts are white or buff. Nightingales have distinctive white or pale gray throats and black or brown eye masks, and their tails are long and graduated. Their legs and feet are brownish or black, and their bills are dark brown or blackish. The female nightingale is slightly smaller and duller in coloration than the male, and the juveniles are similar in appearance to the females but with more mottled plumage.
