Activities Teaching Kids Considerateness

Consideration is thinking of others and putting their needs ahead of yours. Kids should learn to be considerate so that they can relate positively to others in and out of school. Activities that teach kids consideration will show them how to be polite and helping to others.
  1. A Consideration Quilt

    • Give kids pieces of construction paper and let them cut them in half. On one side of the paper, ask them to write one way they can be considerate to other students. On the other side, have them write a way they would like other students to show consideration to them. Help kids make a quilt of the papers by placing them next to each other. Tape the pieces together, using double-side tape on the back of the quilt so it can be attached to a wall. Let the kids talk about their quilt pieces with the class.

    Role Playing

    • With the help of your students, make a list of ways to show consideration and post it on a bulletin board. Arrange kids into groups of two or three. Have each group role play showing consideration using one of the ways from the list on the board. Groups then share their role play with the rest of the class. Briefly discuss each role play.

    Story Rewriting

    • Read a book to the kids whose theme is consideration for others, for example, The Little Red Hen by Paul Galdone. Discuss ways the characters are not being considerate and how they could of have acted differently. Then have kids work independently at their desks rewriting the story so that it shows the characters being more considerate. Let kids share their stories with the class. Display them on a bulletin board as a reminder that there are always ways you can show consideration of others.
