Ask the children to draw a picture or create artwork of their favorite thing learned on their trip. Provide markers, crayons or paints and allow their imaginations and memories to go wild. Incorporate souvenirs from the trip if possible. For example, if the class took a nature walk, gather some leaves and have them trace and color the leaves and glue some on their papers. Let each student show and tell or ask questions about their artwork.
Gather coloring sheets about the place you visited and have the children color the pictures. For example, find coloring pages of different types of dinosaurs if you visited the natural history museum and saw a dinosaur exhibit. If you visited the capitol, gather pictures of the building and politicians such as the governor and legislators, or other famous people who have led in your state. As they color, provide a brief description or history of the person, place or thing in the picture. Hang the pictures up for the entire class to see.
Follow up a trip with story time sessions about the events or history of the field trip. Visit the library for children's books on particular topics, such as animals they saw at a zoo or airplanes if they visited the airport. Kids will make connections in the story with what they saw on their field trip.
Have the kids dress up in costumes and act out a scene related to the field trip. For example, if they visited a zoo, have each child dress up like one of the animals and make noises and act like the animal in front of the class. If they visited the fire station, discuss safety and have the class practice stop, drop and roll.
