Children's Preschool Activities on Jesus

Young students frequently study Jesus in their Sunday school classes, church worship services and religious preschools. Whether you are teaching one preschooler or a dozen, classroom activities make learning about Jesus a more interesting, exciting experience for young children who may have difficulty focusing during a traditional lecture.
  1. Crafts

    • Give your preschoolers a variety of art supplies to make Jesus-centered crafts. Draw pictures of crosses, decorate a coloring worksheet, draw pictures of Jesus or use construction paper to make miniature nativity scenes. If you study a specific lesson about Jesus, make a craft related to that story. For example, if you study the birth of Christ, encourage students to draw a picture of the stable where Jesus was born. If your class talks about the last supper, cut out pictures of food from a magazine and glue them onto a drawing of a table.

    Games

    • Incorporate games into your preschool classroom. Choose games that are entertaining, easy to learn and that focus on Jesus. For example, you can hide a picture of baby Jesus in a decorated shoebox and have children try to guess which box he is in. You can also play "Duck, Duck, Goose" with your students but replace the words with "Happy, Happy Birthday" after your class learns about the birth of Jesus.

    Music

    • Sing Bible songs with your students and listen to Bible-based music CDs in your classroom. Find songs that center on Jesus, such as "Jesus Loves Me" or "Jesus Loves the Littler Children," but don't exclude other popular children's Bible songs that may not explicitly mention Jesus. Give each student a copy of the song lyrics so he can practice singing at home with his parents.

    Stories

    • Read a short story from the New Testament about Jesus or choose a children's book that simplifies a Bible story. Read out loud to your children and pronounce big words slowly. Stop at the end of each page or paragraph to make sure the children are following along with the story. Ask your preschoolers if they have any questions about the story. At the end of each story, discuss the tale with your students and talk about life lessons gleaned from the story.
