Engage preschool children in a leaf-gathering race. Place two piles of leaves on the ground and set a basket about seven feet away from each pile. Divide your class up into two teams and have the teams stand next to a pile of leaves. On your mark, one player from each team gathers a pile of leaves with his hands, runs and places them in the basket. The race continues with each player gathering a pile of leaves and placing them in the basket. The first team to move its pile of leaves into a basket wins the race.
Children hop over pumpkins in this fall-themed physical education activity. Gather a collection of pumpkins and set them out in a straight line with about two feet between each pumpkin. Children stand in front of the line of pumpkins, hopping over each one. If you'd like, time children as they hop over the pumpkins and see if they can beat their time with each round of pumpkin hopping.
Use red bean bags to represent apples in this fall-themed activity that promotes physical development. Place a piece of duct tape on the ground and set a new trash can five feet away from it. Provide children with three red bean bags and tell them to pretend that they are apples. Children take turns standing on the duct tape line and try to throw the "apples" into the trash can. This can either be a non-competitive activity, or you can turn it into a competition by awarding points for each "apple" that lands in the trash can.
Children balance acorns on spoons in this physical activity. Provide each child with a spoon and an acorn. Have them place the acorns on the spoons and walk to a pre-determined ending point. Once they feel comfortable balancing the acorns on the spoons, turn the activity into a race. Give each student a spoon and an acorn and see who can make it to the pre-determined ending point first, while still holding the acorn on the spoon.
