What is a LEP student?

LEP stands for Limited English Proficiency. LEP students are students who have difficulty speaking, reading, writing, or understanding English. This can be due to a variety of factors, such as being born in a non-English speaking country, having parents who speak a different language, or having a learning disability that affects language acquisition.

LEP students often face challenges in school because they may not be able to understand the language of instruction. This can make it difficult for them to learn the content of the curriculum and participate in class discussions. LEP students may also feel isolated and alone because they may not be able to communicate with their classmates and teachers.

There are a number of things that can be done to help LEP students succeed in school. These include:

* Providing English language instruction

* Offering support services, such as tutoring and counseling

* Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment in the classroom

* Encouraging LEP students to participate in extracurricular activities

With the right support, LEP students can overcome the challenges they face and achieve academic success.
