What percentage of Filipino high school graduates go to college?

The percentage of Filipino high school graduates who go to college varies depending on the source and the definition of "college." According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in 2018, the gross enrollment rate (GER) for tertiary education in the Philippines was 41.8%. This means that out of every 100 high school graduates, approximately 42 enrolled in college or a similar post-secondary education program. However, it's important to note that the GER includes students enrolled in both public and private institutions, as well as those enrolled in vocational or technical courses.

If we consider only those who enroll in college or university for traditional academic programs, the percentage may be lower. According to a study conducted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in 2017, the enrolment rate in higher education institutions (HEIs) for traditional undergraduate programs was 33.1%. This means that out of every 100 high school graduates, approximately 33 enrolled in a traditional college or university program.

It's worth noting that these statistics may have changed since 2018 and 2017 due to various factors such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, changes in educational policies, and evolving socio-economic conditions.
