What was true about the school systems in north?

* School systems were segregated. Black and white students attended separate schools, and black schools were typically underfunded and of lower quality than white schools.

* African Americans had limited access to education. Many African Americans were not allowed to attend school at all, and those who were often had to drop out early to work.

* Educational opportunities for African Americans were limited. Even when African Americans were able to attend school, they often had limited access to higher education and professional training.
