When did North Carolina establish public schools?

North Carolina didn't establish a statewide system of public schools with a single act or date. The development of public education in the state was a gradual process spanning decades. However, a significant milestone was the establishment of the Common School Fund in 1825, which provided a financial base for the development of public schools. Even then, it took many years for the system to become widespread and truly accessible to all children. Therefore, there's no single year that accurately represents the establishment of public schools in North Carolina.
