Can an 18 year old who is failing high school due to truancy and noncompliant at home be asked leave in Virginia?

In Virginia, an 18-year-old is considered an adult. While parents can't legally "ask" an 18-year-old to leave their home, the 18-year-old is legally free to leave at any time. The parents have no legal recourse to force them to stay.

The fact that the 18-year-old is failing high school due to truancy and is noncompliant at home doesn't change this legal reality. While the parents might be frustrated and concerned, they cannot legally compel the 18-year-old to remain in their home or continue their education.
