What is MathCounts?

MathCounts is a nationwide middle school competition series and math enrichment program that promotes excellence in mathematics. Founded in 1983 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), MathCounts reaches more than 6 million students every year. The competition series begins at the local level, where students compete in math contests at their schools. Local champions advance to the state level, and state champions compete at the national level. The national championship is held each May in Washington, D.C., and awards $200,000 in scholarships.

In addition to the competition series, MathCounts also offers a variety of math enrichment programs for students and teachers. These programs include math clubs, summer camps, and online resources. MathCounts also provides professional development opportunities for teachers, such as workshops and webinars.

The mission of MathCounts is to inspire and challenge young people to excel in mathematics and technology. MathCounts believes that all students have the potential to succeed in mathematics and that math is a vital tool for success in the 21st century.
