What are the four most metric patterns used?

1. Simple Meter: Uses only single pulses with no subdivisions. Often found in marches, polkas, and folk music.

2. Compound Meter: Uses a pulse divided into two or more equal subdivisions. These subdivisions are often written as dotted notes. Compound meter is often found in classical music, Baroque, and Romantic periods.

3. Duple meter: A metric pattern that divides a measure into two beats. It is often used in marches, dances such as the polka and the waltz and popular music such as rock and pop.

4. Triple Meter: A metric pattern that divides a measure into three beats. It is often used in waltzes, lullabies, and folk music.
