How to Donate Books to the New York Library

Libraries such as the New York Public Library serve as easy way for anyone to expand his knowledge through books, visual media and audio media. Libraries get these materials from various places. You can help out the New York Public Library by donating your used books, DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes that are in good condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine your potential donations to make sure they are in good condition. The New York Public Library does not accept materials in poor condition.

    • 2

Take your donations to the Mid-Manhattan branch at 455 Fifth Avenue. This branch accepts donations and distributes them to the other branches.

    • 3

Take small donations to the Courtesy Desk. Small donations are donations that can fit into one box. Take large donations—consisting of more than one box of materials—to the loading dock. For a very large delivery, you can call the book donation office at (212) 576-0040.
