      Complete an approved teacher-education program in elementary education.

      Complete the South Carolina Educator Application either in electronic form, by visiting the South Carolina State Board of Education website or by downloading the certification application pdf format and filling out a completed form for submission to the Division of Educator Quality and Leadership Office of Educator Certification.

      Submit a minimum score of 165 on the Praxis II Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6 (0522).

      Submit a minimum score of 164 on the Praxis II: Subject Assessment/Specialty Area Elementary Ed: Curriculum Instruction and Assessment (0011) or a minimum score of 164 in the Praxis II: Subject Assessment/Specialty Area Elementary Ed: Curriculum Instruction and Assessment (5011).

      Submit a minimum score of 145 on the Praxis II: Subject Assessment/Specialty Area Elementary Ed Elementary Ed: Content Area Exercises (0012).

      Submit college transcripts to the Office of Educator Certification from all post-secondary institutions attended. Transcripts should be sealed, official versions submitted directly from the college or university.

      Create a packet for the remaining materials that must be submitted directly to the Office of Educator Certification.

      Schedule an L-1 appointment for electronic fingerprinting by visiting the L-1 enrollment website if you are in South Carolina. If you are not, request a fingerprint card from the Office of Educator Certification and visit your local police station for fingerprinting. Afterward, mail the fingerprint card to L-1 Enrollment Services.

      Download the Recommendation Verifying Completion of an Approved Program, if you do not hold out-of-state certification, complete the top portion and send it to the college where you completed your educational studies. The college will return it to you. Include the completed version in your submission package. If you are certified in another state, include a copy of both sides of your current out-of-state teaching credential. Include an interpretation key for any unexplained certification codes.

      Include a nonrefundable certification application fee in the packet, $105 as of July 2011. Payment can be made online through the electronic certification application process or by submitting a check or money order payable to the "South Carolina Department of Education" and submitted to Office of Educator Certification.

      Include a copy of the Verification of Teaching Experience form completed by previous employers, if applicable.

      Receive approval of the South Carolina Elementary Education teacher certification.

      Visit the South Carolina E-Recruitment System State Government careers website to search for available elementary school teaching positions throughout the state.

      Create a personal account on the website and submit an online application for employment openings.

    • 15

      Complete the hiring process. This typically includes an initial interview conducted by the elementary school principal and a review of your credentials. Should you be successful, the school will make an offer of employment.
