Maintain a positive attitude in class. Teach your students with a smile on your face. Speak in a voice that is engaging, not monotone and boring. If you are enthusiastic in the classroom, you may influence your students to learn.
Give your students extra help when they need it. Stay after school to answer their questions, and don't make them feel like they are taking up your time. If you tell your students you will be available at a certain time, be on time. By making yourself available, you show your students that you are committed.
Recognize when your students lose interest. Pay attention to lack of eye contact, bad posture and bored expressions on your students' faces. Alter the pace of the class when you notice your students are bored. For example, you can switch from giving your students a lecture to letting them work with partners on an assignment.
Use fun games to motivate your students. For example, if you want to help your students prepare for a history test, facilitate a game of Jeopardy to get them ready. Being involved in a game will keep their minds focused and allow them to have fun at the same time.
Show your students respect and encourage mutual respect in the classroom. Allow them to ask you questions in class without feeling humiliated. Avoid doing anything that makes your students uncomfortable in class, such as teasing them.
