Create a game board using shape game printables at ABC Teach and a standard manila file folder. Glue the printables inside the file folder and laminate for durability. If you want all of your students to be able to play the game at the same time, make several file folder games so that each group of four or five students can have their own game board. Create a spinner using a brad and the printables at ABC Teach. Students spin the spinner, name the shape the arrow lands on and then move their game piece to the nearest place on the game board with the same shape. Use small objects such as counters or blocks as game pieces.
Purchase or make a shape bingo game. You can find a shape bingo game template at DLTK's Educational Activities for Kids website. To play, the teacher calls out a shape and a color. Students look for that shape and cover it if it is on their card. The first student to cover an entire line wins.
Integrate the arts by allowing students to create art using shapes. Either provide students with a variety of pre-cut shapes in different colors and sizes or instruct students to create their own shapes needed to complete their artwork. For struggling students provide a model for them to replicate, but allow more advanced students to make their own shape creations.
Use poems, songs and videos to help students learn about shapes and their attributes. You can find a shapes poem on the DLTK website. Teach students to sing shape songs such as the one on the Free Kids' Music website. If your school has subscriptions to Discovery Education Streaming Plus or Brainpop, Jr., show students educational shape videos located on these sites.
