Students sometimes need to accept consequences for inappropriate behavior in school. Children will receive the repercussions of their actions more gracefully when they know what to expect. At the start of a school year, design a lesson plan around the classroom expectations. Collaborate as a class to develop a set of rules and assign consequences to those rules. By helping to develop guidelines and outcomes, the students will learn to accept responsibility for their behavior in the classroom.
When the school year begins, children need to create a list of learning goals. They can work with parents and teachers to map out a list of expectations, such as reading times, homework goals and skills to acquire. This lesson must also include consequences for either achieving or falling short of their objectives. Receiving positive consequences inspires students to work hard and helps them to accept negative consequences when they don't meet learning goals.
With childhood obesity steadily rising, all students should learn the consequences of their eating choices. Create a lesson plan that allows students to associate health related consequences with their diets by having them sort foods and conditions on a poster board. The healthy column should contain fruits and vegetables accompanied by energy and strength, with chips and candy in the unhealthy column along with diabetes and obesity. Having an awareness of the consequences associated with their diet will help students to accept those consequences.
Children need an awareness of their impact on the environment. When they learn about the consequences for littering, wasting energy and using too much water, students will try harder to preserve and care for the Earth. Design a lesson plan that studies the carbon footprint of students and their families. Students can work at home to discover the consequences their choices have on the environment. Encourage students to calculate their impact on the environment by considering the type of car they have, amount of water they use and many other factors of their lifestyle. After the students discover their carbon footprint, they can create a list of ways to reduce it.
