Knowing how to calculate the slope of an inclined plane is a skill that has many real-world applications. You may need to determine if your vehicle can make it up a road with a steep grade under its own power. Or you may need to know how long a ramp will have to be for you to move a heavy object from one level to another without breaking your back in the process. Whatever the case, finding the slope of an inclined plane is a simple matter of measurement and division.

1
Measure the vertical distance between the starting and ending points of the ramp. It doesn't matter what unit of measurement you use.
-
2
Measure the horizontal distance between the starting and ending points of the ramp. Be sure to use the same unit of measurement as you did in Step 1.

-
3
Divide your result from Step 1 by your result from Step 2 to obtain the slope of the ramp.
