Help children create art pieces that will remind them to act kindly towards each other. Have children create a T-shirt design out of fabric paint and stencils that will act as a reminder to be kind. An example is a T-shirt that says, "Random Act of Kindness" or "Be Kind" with complementary design elements.
Another type of art for kindness is to create refrigerator magnets that feature the word "Kindness." Create the magnets out of cardboard and other materials such as sequins or buttons. Glue a magnet on the back of the cardboard and display it at home as a reminder to show kindness.
Teach children about the importance of treating people with kindness through art activities. Have children draw a self-portrait on paper. Ask them to sit in a circle and pass their portraits around. Have each child write a kind word or phrase on each portrait about the person in it. The positive words will make the children feel good.
A similar activity shows children the damage unkindness can do. Have each child cut a human figure out of paper and write her name on it before passing it around a circle to others. Ask each child to make a pencil mark on the backsides of each figure. Show children how people may look okay on the outside, but that unkindness makes people feel damaged inside.
Engage children in creating collage art with a kindness theme. Supply magazines and newspapers and ask children to cut out pictures of people displaying kindness. Examples include a magazine ad showing a doctor caring for a patient or a newspaper story featuring a heroic act. Hang a poster board on the wall and paste the clippings on the board in a collage.
Make a kindness wall in the classroom. Provide different color slips of paper and pens near the bulletin board. When a child observes a classmate showing kindness, have him write the classmate's name and act of kindness on a piece of paper and put it on the board.
Ask children to create happy and sad face masks. Use paper plates for the masks; cut eye holes and embellish. Have children role-play a scene, with one taking on the role of a bully and another playing the victim. Have each child hold up the mask representing her character's feelings.
Another art project is to create a recipe book for kindness. Each child writes his recipe and decorates the page. An example of a recipe is to mix kind words with random acts of kindness. Stir in some gentle spirit and spread it around. Compile all the recipes in a book.
