Types of Fuzzy Caterpillars

Caterpillars are simply larvae of moth or butterfly. There are thousands of species found throughout the globe. In many places, they are considered pests, feeding on an assortment of trees and brush. There are at least 16 types of caterpillars that can be classified as having densely populated hair, or what you could call fuzzy, according to the website Discover Life.
  1. Predominantly Yellow Caterpillar

    • The spotted aptaelodes is found on the east coast of the United States. Its larva has either bright yellow or white hair. The laugher moth caterpillar has a shiny black head with yellow triangles and crescents on its sides and is found in the eastern United States, according to the website Discover Life. The yellow-collared scap is found throughout the United States and, as its name suggests, is mostly yellow both as a moth and larva.

    Vibrantly Colored Caterpillar

    • Virgina ctenucha have greenish-yellow colored larvae that inhabit most of the United States, while the yellow-based tussock moth actually appears more orange than yellow as a caterpillar, and sparsely inhabits the Midwest. The walnut caterpillar is bright blue and inhabits the southern United States, while the saltmarsh caterpillar is bright orange and can be found in Central America, as well as the United States. The hickory tussock moth has vibrant, mint-green colored larvae that inhabit the United States.

    Multicolored Caterpillar

    • The milkweed caterpillar has long multicolored hairs that are very thick, with its longest hairs in the front and back, and is colored black and light blue. The sycamore tussock moth larvae has light blue hairs covering the length of its body, with an orange head. Both the sycamore tussock moth caterpillar and the milkweed caterpillar are located in the United States. The great tiger moth has larvae that are found across the United States and Europe. It's colored black and red.The pale tussock moth has larvae that can be black, white and green in color. The moth ranges from the northeast United States to Mexico. The fall webworm moth lives on three continents, including islands in Asia, and has green larvae that have extremely long, white hairs. The spotted tussock moth larvae are yellow and black and inhabit the United States.

    Black and Brown Caterpillar

    • The streaked tussock moth has dark-colored larvae, with black and brown hair, while the pine tussock moth larva has much shorter hair. Both are located in the midwestern United States.
