The Pride of Mississippi marching band is the marching band of the University of Southern Mississippi. The band is often nicknamed the "Spirit of Southern" and can be seen performing during all home football games, as well as select away games and special events.
Formed in 1912, the Spirit of Southern Marching Band is the oldest student organization on the university's campus. Today, the band consists of over 350 student musicians, color guard members, and twirlers.
The band is under the direction of Dr. Jay Dean and Assistant Director Brad McKenzie. The band rehearses several times a week during the fall semester, and performs at various events throughout the year, including the university's Homecoming parade and football games.
