Can a parent in Michigan legally kick there high school student out of the house at 18yo?

In Michigan, the age of majority is 18. At that age, a person is considered a legal adult and has the right to make decisions about their own life. This includes the right to choose where to live.

However, as long as the child or adult child continues to live in their parent’s home, they are bound by the rules of that household. Therefore, unless the parent has previously relinquished such authority, a minor or legally adult child, while residing with their parent, is to remain under their legal control and subject to the reasonable constraints of the parent or legal guardian.

So as long as the child or adult child is living with their parents, the parents have the right to set rules for the household, including when and how their children use the home, and under what conditions they may remain there.
