Why is chaminade high school exempt from the regents?

Chaminade High School, and other similar private schools, are exempt from the New York State Regents Examinations because they are not public schools. The Regents exams are a requirement for graduation from public high schools in New York State. Private schools set their own academic standards and graduation requirements, and are therefore not subject to the same regulations.
