What is plot of the Landlady by Roald Dahl?

The Landlady is a 1959 short story by British writer Roald Dahl. The story follows a young man, Billy Weaver, who is travelling to London by train and comes across a small, old-fashioned bed-and-breakfast. The landlady, Mrs. Muldoon, seems charming at first, but Billy soon begins to notice strange things about her.

Mrs. Muldoon tells Billy that she has only two other guests, Christopher Muldoon and Gregory, both young men. She shows him to his room, which is filled with old-fashioned furniture and photographs of young men. Billy notices that the photographs all look the same age, as if they have not changed in years.

Billy starts to suspect that something is wrong and decides to investigate. He sneaks into the next room and finds a stuffed fox in a glass case. He also finds a diary that contains entries from Christopher Muldoon and Gregory. The entries reveal that both young men died under mysterious circumstances.

Billy realizes that Mrs. Muldoon is a murderer and that he is in danger. He tries to escape, but Mrs. Muldoon catches him. She attempts to poison him, but Billy manages to escape.

The story ends with Billy running away from the bed-and-breakfast. He is exhausted, scared, and confused, and he does not know what to do next.
