Why was the middle passage called this?

The middle passage was called this because it was a part of the transatlantic slave trade. The journey that African slaves were forcibly transported under horrendous

conditions from West Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas to be sold as slaves.

- The ships used for the middle passage were often dirty, overcrowded, humid and there wasn’t enough food or water.

- The voyage could take anywhere from two to five months, and often resulted in the deaths of a large number of the slaves.
