What is a subject compliment?

Subject complement: A word group (usually an adjective, adjective phrase, noun, noun phrase, pronoun, verbal) which appears in place of an object-noun that renames or describes the subject:

Examples:

- "Mary is a doctor." (Doctor renames Mary.)
