Why did tonto say kemasaubi?

The phrase "kemo sabe" is associated with the fictional Native American character Tonto from the Lone Ranger radio and television shows. Tonto never actually said "kemasaubi". "Kemo sabe" is a term of respect and endearment, roughly translating to "faithful friend" or "trusty scout."
